The Cornish Chamber of Mines and Minerals is marking a leadership transition as Kathy Hicks steps down as Chair, the first female Chair in the organisation’s 100‑plus‑year history. Kathy is a geologist and environmental consultant, who runs her own firm, Carrak Consulting. During her tenure, she oversaw the establishment of a management committee and several working groups, introduced a new website, and supported an increase in membership alongside a strengthened Board structure.

Under Kathy’s leadership, the Chamber has improved its financial position and contributed to sector policy and planning through guidance notes produced with university partners and coordinated consultation responses. She also helped develop partnerships, including work on a Shared Prosperity Fund project and closer engagement with Cornwall Council, the Environment Agency, the Mineral Products Association and other stakeholders.

Kathy is succeeded by Chris Harker, a mining engineer with extensive experience in Cornwall’s mining and geothermal sectors. His appointment provides continuity of technical and local knowledge as the Chamber continues its work on behalf of the region’s mining and minerals community.
